Africa Centre of Excellence (ACE) National Steering Committee headed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is Established on 28 December 2018, Addis Ababa.
H.E. Afework Kasu(Prof), State Minister, Ministry of Science and Higher Education, in his opening speech expressed that to promote the current national transformation establishing the steering committee do have prominent role.
The ACE , the National Steering Committee have to promote the ample natural resources Ethiopia has, and become a competent center both in Africa and International standards, the Minister added.
Zerihun Kebede(PhD), Director General for Higher Education, has presented the overall about the ACE and reports of performances of the four national centers.
All the four centers have presented their performance reports; three of which – ACE WM, ACE RE, CDT Africa are found at Addis Ababa University and ACE Climate SABC is found at Haramaya University.
Besides certain successes the challenges such as shortage of skilled man power, bureaucratic procurement process, poor ownership of the stakeholders, limited participation to experience sharing international meetings, and absence of National Steering Committee (NSC) faced the centers are discussed against by the participants.
The National Steering Committee chose from the participants drawn from Ministry of Health, Ministry of Water-Irrigation-Energy, MoFED, Ethiopian Rail Road Corporation, Addis Ababa University, Haramaya University and Prof. Afework Kasu from MoSHE has assigned to head the committee.
